I have a 3.7yr old and 22 month old. Am longing for the time that just because they wake up at 6am doesn't mean I need to get up then too...Any thoughts anyone?

my DD learnt to read at 3 and a half just so I could have a lie in and she would read her books in bed until 7.30. She could also tell the time. It was a great incentive for me to try to help teach her reading and she absolutely loves her books so it works well. Now she is older she goes into DD2's room and reads her books until 7.30 and then she takes her downstairs and puts the TV on until I get up at about 8.

I allow wouldnt allow them downstairs on they're own due to the hazards etc however they are allowed to play upstairs on their own in the day if we are downstairs as I have tried to make sure everything upstairs is safe and the majority of their toys are in their bedrooms which keeps them occupied.
They are 4 and 23 months
DD is quite responsible and likes to tell tales so that rules out DS trying to get up to mischief

dd is five and has been getting up and coming downstairs for about a year. she gets up and watches tv and sometime makes herself cereal but most times helps herself to fruit.

on fathers day she made dh a glass of orange juice and bought it upstairs - v sweet, he was very grateful(a little hungover) but we then realised that dealing with glass was not a good idea and she has been told plastic from now on (not that she has done it again).

i cannot imagine leaving ds for a second until he is at least twenty two. three seconds alone and he can get into all sorts of trouble.

We got dd1 an alarm clock from about the age of 5. When it went off she was allowed to come in to out room. Before that she had to play in her room.
