Round our way your GP refers you to a patch team. The first person you see is a paed and then they refer you on to others including, in our case, a clinical psych, OT and SALT. Then the idea is that they all get together at the end and come up with a dx.

In our case the dx was a bit unconvincing as the OT and the paed weren't there and the SALT and the psychs who were there weren't the ones who saw DS but in theory it is a good idea.

Another person who helped out in the early stages, when DS was in Yr R was the school nurse who did an assessment on him, partly for the school's benefit, I think and partly as more info for the paed.

School nurse was a patronising old bat who suggested I stop buying biscuits (to make her eat properly after she gave up for 3 weeks) then asked me what i was crying for after dragging DD into school kicking and screaming for the umpteenth time that morning.
am head burying today after this mornings tantrum involved chairs being thrown around because there was the wrong shirt clean. but now she's being all angelic and nice.

School nurse is not the SENCO.
I really agree with others, if she is abotu to go to secondary it is very much in the interests of both of you if you get a diagnosis.

got another year of primary left. this morning i had her labelled with full blown bi-polar/autism/psychotic/bad now she's a different person and i think i dreamt it.

Bless you ...Hang in there! It may be worth reading Tony Attwood's book Aspergers and Girls or his excellent book on Aspergers Syndrome,if you are able to find the time in the midst of all this. He also has a website..Best of luck.

I Went to the GP to get DS diagnosed. School also wrote me a list of concerns and I took these with my list to the GP. He took one look at it and referred us to the Neurological team at the local hospital where we saw a specilist Paed and SALT who diagnosed AS at 6. They also look at other possibilities when doing these tests. Before the first appointment they had sent questionaires to me and one for the school to help them decide which way they should assess DS.

Also recomment the Tony Attwood book
