My ds nearly 2 yrs and still not running, is this 'normal'?

My ds walked late at about 16 months and his twin sister walked at 14 months. She is now running and jumping but he can only walk fast at the most. Is this really late not to be running? He is 3 weeks away from 2nd birthday but they were both 7 weeks premature.

I'm no expert but my DD walked at 10 months and it was only today (She is 24 months) that I noticed she actually runs now. Maybe she was just never in a hurry, but your DS sounds within normal ranges to me.

Thanks shoegazer that makes me feel a lot better. I think I worry about ds as before birth I had a really bad nuchal scan result for him and so now I am always thinking the worst when for eg he wasnt walking and then when he walked I thought he had a funny gait and NOW I have realised that he isnt running or jumping like his sister. I suppose with twins its easy to compare directly. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry. Your daughter sounds quite advanced to be able to jump before 2 years old - plenty of children are much later than that to learn to jump (my son's physio always said it's something they expect a child to be able to do by the time he is 3, although with the plethora of bouncy castles and trampolines available to practice on these days, most children can jump before then). As for running, it really depends what you actually mean by running - waddling would be a more appropriate description of a child under the age of 2 attempting to run.

well my dd runs properly and my ds just waks fast if that explains it. I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill (does the worrying EVER stop or am I just neurotic!!?) but when I went on the internet to look at developmental milestones every site I looked at said they 'should' be running by 2 years old.

DD1 didn't even walk till she was 17 months, she just sat around on her bum. I was absolutely terrified that something was wrong.

She's now seven, and fine!

I think worrying about a child who walked within a completely normal time frame but is not yet running at not-quite 2 is making a mountain out of a molehill (something we all do from time to time with respect to our children). Walking much later than 16 months, still being unsteady with a wide based gait, bumping into things and falling over all the time AFTER the age of 2 might well be concerning, but not what you describe in your son.

yes I am grateful for these answers to my post because it helps put things more in perspective instead of worrying needlessly about things. Thanks.
