been through every method given to us but ds (2) is a mare when it comes to washing his hair. I know this is common etc but is there anything else you can use than shampoo and water to clean it? Ds ok getting it wet as i just use sponge and putting on shampoo gets tetchy as knows rinse is coming. Can you get a dry shampoo for this age?

This might sound like a not very good way of hair washing, but I got so fed up of the whole rinse trama that I settled on this. Whatever you do don't mention hair washing . If you use bubbles for the bath, buy some that is body and hair friendly. Then comb some through. Tell him it's just water and give him a comb so he can do it too. Secret is that once he's accepted this you sneakily run some shampoo through with the comb. He'll relax if he doesn't think you're washing his hair, then have a crafty bowl of clean water by the side of the bath that he doesn't see and comb that through. By the time you get to rinsing, he should be far more relaxed about the combing thing, so you can use a bit more water and get whatever you're using out of his hair. Assuming his hair's short, it works fine.

get a shield/hat thingy. or don't bother. DS2 (5) rarely gets a shampoo because he hates it and I can't be bothered to fight him. His hair looks/smells fine.

could you use a swimming google / mask? or what I used to do with dd is get her to lay back in the water so that her face is out but her ears and hair were covered. we would shower first then she would get in the bath so primarily clean water. the I would get a jug with warm water and just tip it a the very back of hair nowhere near face. eventually the water from the jug go higher and higher until the point I could pretty much rinse her hair with the jug alone. but it did take some time and was murder on my back

ive tried all the below, he just v stubborn , using just water doesnt get it clean. He is always in sand pit etc so needs proper wash. I looked into the body wash stuff but he gets bad ezcema so have to use special bath stuff!

I was so bad that apparently my mum used to wash mine in the sink. She lay me on my back along the draining board, supported my head over the sink, then gently washed and rinsed. According to her after lots of tantrum filled bathtimes it worked a treat. Suppose it depends if you've got a long worksurface or not...

Hi Mad4

My DS (also 2) makes a fuss every bathtime when it comes to 'hair washing' - we just ignore him and carry on with the shampooing and rinsing tbh (cos I am a mean mummy!!)

However, I always make it the last thing we do in the bath, after he has played, so when he gets upset, he comes straight out for a cuddle and then gets his bedtime dummy and blankie so his tantrum doesn't last long.

ok, but DS has never needed anything more than water until now, at 2.10. He is often in sand and splashing in the mud. We bake loads and he is always dirty. I doubt the need for shampoos on toddlers, especially where eczema is concerned (DS suffers too). I know there are plenty of MNters who agree.
