Swearing in front of a baby 0 when to stop?

Our baby is 12 weeks old so, clearly, doesn't say much other than "g'ah!" or "g'uh!".

I am sure he listens to us and is interested in us speaking, etc - but despite this I still swear in front of him by mistake sometimes. I wouldn't do this if he was old enough to speak himself (I hope!) but, surely, although he is so tiny, he is still absorbing my foul language...woudl hate it if his first word was obscene

hmm...when should one start watching one's own language in front of a baby?

i always watched what i said just felt young ears shouldnt be subjected to my foul language spent most of my time talking baby forgot how to talk normally anyway lol

its not wrong to swear in front of child occassionally i do if not thinking correctly im sure every one does

but i do try to think of what im saying so i can make it sound politer unless dp has really peed me off may let a few fouls out without realising

start now, and it will come naturally before he listens and picks it up.

do not wait until he tells your aunt to "fuck off you stupid cow" like DD1 did after copying her daddy

((altho, she said all I have wished to say, so unfortunately her mother laughed))

starkadder · 30/06/2008 18:11

that IS funny!! haha! I had better start being careful :-)

Or say 'Oh Bollocks', like my friend's DD said in from of her grandmother. Grandmother said 'What did you say', and friend's DD repiles 'I said Oh bollocks - Daddy says it all the time' !!

herbgarden · 02/07/2008 17:39

now would be a good time and well before they start repeating everything you say !

rolymoma · 02/07/2008 18:21

i was driving last week and, in pointless irritation referred to a male road user as a 'cock'. immediately my 18 mth DD piped up 'cock-a-doodle-doo'.... it has made me stop and think a bit!

ummadam · 02/07/2008 19:49

now is always a good time...... you'll find it takes quite a bit of practice to stop (ask my OH!)

Hulababy · 02/07/2008 19:52

Stop doing it now, he is already beginning to take everything in and absorb everything around him.

Also if you stop now you will be more used to it by the time he is old enough to copy you.

DS1's first word was Duck. At least I think it was duck... he rapidly moved onto "Oh FFS!" when impersonating his father in the car

I agree, no harm in gettign into the habit now. Alos, don't get too hung up if you slip up!
Ds is 2 this month and we still have to be careful - dh is like a longshoreman when he comes home from work and i have to give him The Look quite a lot.

dylsmum1998 · 02/07/2008 21:00

agree definately start now so you dont have as much chance of slipping. i had a letter which didnt impress me shall we say the other week. forgetting dd was there i said out loud you cant be fing serious promptly dd goes Fing erious! why is it the only word she said clearly the first time she says it? she hasnt said it since thankfully
