Hi, my dd has just turned 8 months and unlike her 2 older siblings who were sitting up by now, this one isnt. Wasnt concerned at all just thought they are all different and she will do it when she is ready etc. Since she had her 8 month check last week when the hv came round , however I have been really stressing about it as the hv wants to come back in a few weeks then poss get her to see a physio. Trying to encourage her to sit but to be honest she just doesnt seem ready. Dont know what advice if any I m looking for really but tell me what age did your baby begin to sit up?? These bloody milestones!!

DD wasn't sitting up at 9 months. She got their eventualy, although she is abit behind. Wouldn't worry to much yet though.

it's still very early - and your hv is well on the ball. wouldn't worry, and it sounds like they're keeping an eye anyway. any other issues with milestones? mouthing objects, using hands etc? was the rest of the 8 month check ok? (or don't they do those now?!)

The rest of the check was ok and everything else sems fine generally she is alert etc - only other thing is that she has also not got the hang of solids yet very well, most of it seems to come back out again (and again) but she has been teething lately so I hadnt been pushing it.

DS didn't sit up till he was just under 9 months. He started crawling at virtually the same time too. Good that your HV is keeping an eye on it -as it's best to arrange referrals before you are frantic with worry about a problem, as it can take months for the appointment to come through, and the referral can always be cancelled if it all sorts itself out in the meantime.

Thanks for the replys. She just seems a bit top heavy , her head has always seemed big but her legs seem short and she just cant find her centre of balance when I try to get her to sit. Will just keep practising I suppose. I guess it is good that the hv is on the ball - I was just a bit annoyed that where I wasnt worried before, now I am ,if you know what I mean.

oh ok. so a couple of markers to be watched, but she's still v little for both really. they are obviously keeping an eye on her just to make sure everything is ok.

glad that hv is on the ball - it means if you do get concerned you know you will be listened to. if you do get as far as physio (she'll probably sit up perfectly next week lol) they are usually very lovely with tinies!

dd didn't sit up on her own until 13 mths, crawled at 13.5 mths, walked independently at 18 mths. Won't say we weren't worried at the time but she is within the normal ranges for these things - just the very slow end. We did get referred to a paediatrician at 12 mths who referred us to a physio but it ended up being just for reassurance. (took about 2 mths to get paed appt then another 4-6 weeks to see a physio).

My ds2 is 19 months and is only just getting the hang of sitting. Doesn't mean he wants to mind! Still tries with all his might to lie back down again.

Thank you , these comments are reassuring.
