How to change from E.A.S.Y baby routine - baby always wants a feed when he wakes up!!

Hi. We have been following the EASY baby routine for some months now, not in terms of timings just the pattern of Eat, Activity, Sleep, You Time(!) which has been good eliminate reasons for crying in the early days. The problem is that every time my 5 1/2 month baby wakes he needs a feed! This is my fault for always being on tap I guess but now weaning is looming I am not sure how I am going to get a quality feed time following a sleep. I know I have probably made a rod for my own back here and just wondering how I can change our pattern without too much heartache and if anyone else is following this pattern and has any top tips?! Thanks for your help

I can't help but think you are worrying a bit too much. Does everything really have to be compartmentalised like this? What happens as your DS gets older and more complicated/sophisticated? Why don't you just try and go with what seems to work for him, especially with regard to his appetite. I think you'll find that this routine is easily changed - and will need to be changed again and again and again.

My dd would go bananas if not fed within 1/2 hour of waking for ages. She grew out of it. Just go with the flow...

Really don't worry about it. When he has fewer and longer naps it will all settle into place.

Keep it going. If it works, don't break it. It won't make any difference to the solids. You won't be giving him solids when he wakes, unless it's just a little snack, so having a milk feed upon waking won't put him off his solid food. Besides, milk feeds are still going to be more important than solids for the next few months, so it's not a good idea to cut them down yet.

I've done EASY-type routines with all 3 of mine, and the only time it has ever been an issue has been when I've had to get the baby up to collect an older child from school. And that's just one waking from time to time - they cope. It's never posed a problem during weaning to solids.

I did a kind of EASY routine with my son when he was younger. However, now he's on 3 meals a day and 2 naps a day, it doesn't work. He has a nap straight after breakfast and another straight after lunch and it does him no harm!
I think the point of EASY when they are small is to avoid feeding them to sleep, but if you've been following it for a while then your baby shouldn't have that association and it won't matter now. Just my opinion though.

sunny04, if your baby is hungry, you have to feed it. I cannot see any way round it. And your baby is the best judge of when he is hungry.

EASY is not end all and be all. Lots of babies don't agree with it.

If you feed your baby when he wakes, I am not sure what rod you are making for your own back, save that you are not following an arbitrary pattern dictated by a lady who never met your baby and who never bf-ed (yes, Tracy Hogg - although I don't know if you are currently bf-ing).

hi sunny04, i agree with others if your baby wants to be fed as soon as he/she wakes up. the baby is still so young too. my baby is now 11 months and she loves her milk as soon as she wakes up too. i breastfed her until last month and i now i prepare her bottle in the bedroom. one hour later she has breakfast with no problems.

Thanks for all the advice. Will keep going with EASY as it has worked for us until now and see how things pan out over the next few months. Good to know that other people have gone through it and come out the other side! Thanks again
