my car was broken into at some point last night. i took ds 9 to school and discovered it on the way home. i have phoned police etc etc.
but due to excess on my insurance it appears its going to be something i have to pay for. we have a holiday booked for 5 weeks time. i had saved up almost enough money for this.
i explained to ds that i should just be able to still manage the holiday if we are incredibly thrifty. so no days out before we go(except one which is already booked) when we go to parks etc we'll have ice cream at home instead of out, take lunch wth us etc etc. i would sort some things to put on ebay to try and raise cash and so on

he said ok then. we should ride our bikes more shouldnt we and save diesel. then he offered to turn off at the wall and not use his playstation before we go. and he's going to look around his room to see if there any other little things he can do to help. and he promised (i never asked him to) that he wouldnt ask for anything not even a bag of crisps if we are out.
how sweet and grown up is he. made me want to cry with pride. i cant believe this is the same little boy last weekend i got really ound up with and phoned my friend very upset cos he was a spoilt brat!! makes me feel very bad how annoyed i got last weekend cos he's clearly not from what he said today

Sunshinemummy · 25/06/2008 16:33

That's lovely - what a gorgeous little boy you have.

MamaG · 25/06/2008 16:33

Oh bless him, what a nice boy he is

If its any consolation, we always take a packed lunch and have ice cream at home and the children don't suffer

BetteNoire · 25/06/2008 16:34

What a lovely boy you have.

Aww. Sorry to hear about your car. My wallet was nicked yesterday, (all my cards, my cash for the whole month, lots of sentimental stuff and I loved the wallet itself.... so gutted). When I got home & realised it was gone - I'd had it in a bag which was open while on crowded Tube with DS - I burst into tears. DS (aged 2) was worried and I explained that I was sad about my wallet - he put his arms around me, gave me the loveliest hug, kissed me very sweetly on the head and said 'There Mummy no sad any more. Love Mummy'. Whoever nicked my wallet doesn't have what I have, and no matter how much they get for those stolen cards, they'll never have it. Some things about being a mum are just lovely, aren't they?

ah bless becster your lo sounds very sweet too. and your very right they can take our possessions but we still have the best bits ever- the children are worth a million trillion times the car radio is! (or wallet in your case!)
have you got any hope of getting your things back?

Yes and no. I've checked & am not covered on house insurance. I've filled in a Tube lost property form in case whoever nicked it tosses the wallet itself when they've taken the cash/cards. I'd love to get the wallet itself back, it has a lot of sentimental value. I've stopped all the cards so those are safe now. DH gave me the cash to replace the cash that was stolen, which was adorable of him (it means he can't afford to go to the golf driving range for next two weeks, and can't buy his coffee on way to work this month, so not huge sacrifices but annoying.) But I guess the whole thing did remind me of how lucky I am, bizarrely. And how sad whoever took the wallet is comparatively. Your DS sounds lovely, clearly you've brought him up very well
