10-month-old delayed in gross motor skills, looking for reassurance

Good evening all,

My daughter has just had her 10-12 month review (She was 10 months 10 days ago). She scored well in all areas apart from gross motor skill where she scored 10/60. Her fine motor skills are amazing.

She sits unaided and has done this since 4 months. She’s can say three words and just barrel rolls everywhere or slightly shuffles on her bum. She can’t stand unaided or crawl. If you try to get her to stand she will but her body is bent forward and she often just lift her legs up.

I have no concerns about her, she’s very switched on and content. She’s my second and her brother was walking whilst holding your hand by this point.

The heath visitor advised I make a doctors appointment to check hips. I just looking for other mums where their children were maybe slightly delayed with their gross motor skills who can give me hope! I’m guessing she will just do it in her own time.

Do you know if the HV used the 10 month Ages & Stages and if so, did your DD score in the grey or black for gross motor skills?

As well as suggesting visiting the GP, has she also booked another appointment with you to see if your DD has made any progress?

I’m not sure sorry, she just stated she scored 10/60.

No further appointments booked or mentioned, just to call back of worried.

I know that the HV service is very, very underfunded but that’s not great.

It might be nothing but the GP needs to check her hips to check that they function correctly and that pain isn’t the cause of her not bearing weight. They usually manipulate the hips to check them and may refer her for a scan.

I would fill in the Ages & Stages that I linked to and take it with you to the appointment.

You’ll also have a copy yourself them so that when she reaches 12 months, you can do the next Ages & Stages and see how much progress she’s making.

I do apologise, I didn’t realise I could click and see the form. I had that form and another one, she scored in the black for gross motor skills but scored full for all the others.

Im happy for her to be checked as I’m hyper mobile for worry she may be too.

Thank you for you advice l.

Absolutely no worries Smile

Your HV is right, if she’s in the black she does need checking out by a GP.

Let us know what they say Smile
