Has anyone’s baby gone quiet before speech developed around 11 months?

Hey all. Looking for experiences with your babies just to give me a better idea of how ‘in the grey’ my little man currently is for communication.

hes 11.5 months and I was going through the ASQ for his review in a few weeks and it’s made me worry a little.

he did babble consonants from 6 months but was always quite quiet - he did use a range of sounds though. For the last 3 weeks he’s been essentially mute except the odd ‘ga’ and squeals. He has not ever made any word or sound to mean anything. He doesn’t point or raise his arms as a gesture to be lifted he just starts trying to climb my legs and wriggle out of high chair etc if he wants me.

he can clap, wave in context, answers to his name and plays peekaboo. He can give a cuddle when asked and knows like where is mama where is dada to look at us etc

the thing that worries me is the stopping of the skill more than it being delayed. Has anyone had this and speech came back? He has started cruising around and walking with his walker in this time and is cutting first molars so I’m trying to be ratiomal
And consider They might be influencing but I can’t help worry too

thak you!!

Is he just in the grey for communication @andreae23? If so, I wouldn’t worry too much. Babies develop different skills at different times so it’s perfectly normal for them to score in the grey in one or two areas, in fact that is how lots will score. Your HV should have explained that you’re not looking at white for every section, I’m sorry if she didn’t.

It’s only a concern if they score grey in more than two areas or in the black for any area.

If he is scoring in the grey for communication I would do this progress checker from Speech & Language UK as if it says that he needs some support, they will send you links to some resources you can use to try to encourage speech.
