Hello! Is there anyone else in the same position as me..
my daughter who is almost 5 struggles so much at school.
not diagnosed with Autism/ADHD but a possibility
she is lovely at home, not many issues, fine with other kids at soft play etc, though also happy to play alone.
the problem is in school she is extremely impulsive and hitting/pushing/being horrible to her friends almost daily it seems. It has been going on since the beginning of reception and hasn’t got any better. The school has put certain things in place for her to help her triggers, usually people too close to her for example. She has been excluded internally twice.
its very sad to see her struggling so much and it’s hard to know what to do as she is not like this at home.
A few parents have noticed this and one parent has spoken about my daughter in a negative way to other parents which really doesn’t help the situation.
anyone else having the same issues would love to speak to other who are going through/ have been through similar

When you say ASD and ADHD are a possibility, has she been referred yet and accepted onto the pathway?

What else has been done so far?

Have you had her hearing checked?

How does she do on this simple progress checker?

Have you applied for a EHC needs assessment? You don’t have to wait for a diagnosis to do this as they are based on need. You also don’t have to wait for the School on this one, you can apply for one as soon as you want to.

EHC needs assessments

An EHC needs assessment is an assessment of a child or young person’s education, health and care needs

Not yet.. the school has been monitoring her for a while and they have said she shows some signs of it, but still too early to say

i did speak to GP a while ago but they said its just a stage of development but I think it may be more

hearing all fine!

I didn’t know about the EHC so I will have a look into that now, thank you!

How did the progress checker go?

From your answers, it may be that your child needs more support with social communication.

This is what it said

Ok so if speak to the School SENCO tomorrow and tell them about the progress checker and ask for a referral for a hearing test and SaLT.

Her hearing might appear perfect but it’s pretty standard procedure to have it checked before SaLT.

If School won’t refer them speak to the School Nurse service for your area or her GP.
