Flamesparrow, if the car seat belt is across the child, then what is holding the car seat into position in the car?

Or do you mean you have it like a booster seat where the child has the adult seat belt across him but still have the harness on the child - which sounds like good thinking!

Dummymumm, we got seats from Argos for about £30 for our two, that are harness then convert to using the adult seat belt. If your child is too big for his rear facing seat then it won't work properly if there's an accident.

It is a seat like this that is normally held in place behind the child when the 5 point harness is attached, and then across the child when they go up a stage. We have just combined stages 1&2

Flame's method is going to be my next step, as we are driving to France in the summer, ad I'm not sitting in the back all the way there!

Shoshe - Please check with your mindees parent before you do it. They may prefer you deal with the escaping rather than take the (small imo, but still present) risk that it will take longer to free him in the event of an accident.

I would suggest the houdini stop

www.houdinistop.co.uk

It has been crash tested as well as approved by the ACRI as safe.

It clips on dead easy, you can do it with one hand

It doesnt move up or down without any real force

Our youngest was always pulling his arms out but this totally did the trick.

I read a lot about these sorts of things being illegal and dangerous as it takes the emergency services longer to get them out in an accident. The way i see it, if you have a crash and your child has their arms out of their straps they are going to be in great danger before it gets to the point of the emergency services trying to get them out of the car. And at the end of the day the strap can be cut int he middle if needs be.

As for it being illegal I have done my fair share of research and can confirm that EU legislation states you cant SELL a car seat with this type of thing on it, but there is no law against buying one, or attaching one yourself.

We feel much happier and more comfortable driving now knowing the he is fastened in securely and not with his arms out all over the place.
