Hi, I took my daughter to the doctors on Friday, she is 10 years old. She has unexplained bruises on her legs, she is having alot of nosebleeds, her gums bleed and she is tired. She has slept nearly all weekend. The doctor took blood test and said I would find out the results maybe this week. Just abit worried now as to what he is testing for. Anyone been in the same situation as me and could tell me more please? Thanks

I would imagine the first thing would be anaemia, which can be easily treated.

Could you phone the doctor again to ask and save yourself some unnecessary worry ?

He wouldn't tell me. He said it could be nothing or it could be a number of things

Cryptic aren't they docs !

I know you are worried, I would be too.

Hopefully the results will come back quickly and the problem identified and treated. It cant be much fun for your daughter.

I suppose he wouldn't tell you because even if he mentions a number of things, one tends to focus on the worst possible option, even if it is the least likely one.
But of course by not telling you, it leaves you free to imagine anything at all.
I think anaemia is very common at this age, however, I know I suffered from it and had all the symptoms you describe, I just needed iron supplements as far as I remember.

Yes I am very worried. He said he would ring me as soon as the test results come back. No its not much fun for her - she is crying alot. Thanks for the comments Katw3kitts

Thanks Rosa - that sounds possitive. Hope it is just that

In future, I would insist on knowing what he was testing for. How can you consent to blood tests if you don't know what they are? tbh I would see a different Dr too - you should be treated like an adult even if he has to spend a little longer explaining a few things to you. It could save you worrying yourself sick. I hope you get the results soon and it's what RosaLuxembunting described.
