Could this be Autism?

My daughter has always been on the later end of achieving milestones. Never delayed for the most part but just makes it within the stated timeframe.

The only thing she is delayed in is her speech. However I never worried too much because she still babbles, pointed and made eye contact. I decided to attend talk and play sessions to help with her speech development and have seen a difference. She has since increased her vocabulary and is mimicking more words. She is still delayed at 22 months but I was hopeful that she would catch up.

However another behaviour I have picked up on now is toe walking. She started to walk at 17 months and has since walked with her feet flat on the ground. However this week I've noticed her tip toe walk 3 times. I'm a little concerned. I'm wondering whether this could indicate autism and I should get her checked or if it could be that her calf muscles are weak. She falls down when she runs as well.

Does anyone have any experience or advice?

If she’s toe walking and falling over when she runs and also has speech delay, I would definitely mention all of this to your HV. Has she got her 2 year check coming up?

Occasional toe walking can be completely normal. They are learning what they can do and discovering new things. Unless it's constant I wouldn't be worried about that.

If you are worried do the 2 year development check and see where shes at before contacting your health visitor.

I think your DD might be a bit young for that Ages & Stages? I’d have a look at the 22 month Ages & Stages and the 2 year Social & Emotional Ages & Stages and see how they score Smile
