Is this level of moaning and tantrums normal at age three?

my 3 year old at the minute is constantly moaning or crying. she refuses to nap but even if she does nap it doesn’t help her mood. She would argue black was white with me. She refuses to hold hands when walking, throws bitch fits when she is told no. She is a nightmare we genuinely feel on edge constantly, she can be a great child and she’s so cute and polite and just wants to talk to everyone but sometimes she’s a complete demon 🙈🙈 it sounds like I hate her I don’t I’m finding it all very stressful. Is this normal for a 3 year old is she going through something developmentally. I have another child but they are like night and day, he is autistic and was non verbal didn’t really have strops he was quite a chill child

So you have one who is already diagnosed. Has the HV been keeping a close eye on your DD?

Don’t they just! Smile

It’s difficult to tell at 3 I suppose as most will throw tantrums at this age. I think what they look for is that the tantrums don’t last more than 15 minutes.

I’m surprised by the HV backing off once your DD started to speak. Has she ever asked you to complete the progress checker from Speech & Language UK?

No I’m in ni we don’t get asked to fill in anything tbh she was referred to speech therapy as her brother didn’t speak but one the first appt she was discharged.. her tantrums aren’t long they are just a lot she’s even at the point where she’s annoying her brother and he asks why she moans all the time.. and a literal bomb could go off before he would notice anything

The SaLT also discharged my DC2, they later received a diagnosis of AuDHD. My usual thoughts on these things are that if you’re noticing that there is something different about their behaviour, there usually is and to trust your gut instinct.

Dud you manage to have a look at the links I posted? Smile
