Now I'm not saying this will be the same for everybody, but wanted to give some hope!

I have spent what feels like years of my life trying to coax my DS to eat (from about 18m to 3y) and he would refuse food, any food, after a few mouthfuls. Iwas worried sick but he continued to grow.

Then we got into the "I will eat but only X Y and Z" - cue food being stared at in horror if it wasn't X Y and Z and refusing to let it be on teh plate, let alone taste it!

DS was 4 in March and for the past month or so has eaten everything put in front of him - including new foods without a murmur. I really think we've cracked it now and thats without me pressuring him or panicking or forcing him to eat

So hang in htere, hopefully your small child will be like mine and just start to eat everything

Well it gives me hope! My DS from a similar age would only eat cheese, yoghurt and toast and snacky type foods. Won't have proper meals. He is 2.3 now, growing very well despite not eating much.

And me. My dd 23mo lives on toast, breakfast cereal, yoghurt and more yoghurt. All she would eat yesterday as yoghurt

MamaG · 22/06/2008 12:34

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both

Thats really good to ear MamaG.
DS is a real problem eater, good to know it can just turn around.

MamaG · 22/06/2008 12:48

(...he's about to eat roast pots and butternut squash with his lunch, which he previusly HATED)

DD1 is 4 1/2 now and still turns her nose up if it isn't pasta/noodles/chicken(even then not always)/broccoli(even then not always)

But as she eats good breakfast and lunch I try not to bother, she just gets a lot of pasta.

snooks · 22/06/2008 12:55

that is really encouraging news mamaG, for the past 3 weeks ds1 - 3.9 - has had fish fingers for tea EVERY night. And I mean JUST fish fingers. He seems to thrive though.

brightongirldownunder · 22/06/2008 12:56

Thank god for that. Although DD is only 14 months she really has been a dreadful eater - I've even had comments about it from members of family, other mums.
Worst thing is she may be the only toddler ever to hate breakfast..weirdo!
Roll on happy eater! Is there anything that you did specifically or did you just learn to ignore pickyness?

Amphibimum · 22/06/2008 12:57

hate to piss on your parade, but my 28yo brother still only eats plain pizza, pasta and pesto or bolognese, sausages and bacon (pretty much) to this day
but then, im pretty sure hes unique

WeeBesom · 22/06/2008 12:59

That's great, hope it continues! I kind of have the opposite problem. My dd1 used to eat anything put down in front of her but now is getting very fussy. I supppose I can't complain as she still has quite a varied diet.

i'll hang in there. dd (just 4) only eats the carbs, pasta, rice, potatoes, bread - and ham, brocolli (if persuaded lots), chicken (sometimes), fish fingers, thats about it really.

she's very well built though. prob from all the sweets, crisps, etc that she WILL eat!

MamaG · 22/06/2008 13:44

I tried to just ignore the pickiness but rather than having sit miserably at the dinner table, staring at a roast dinner, I'd give him the things he would eat (carrots, yorkshire puds, meat) and then the rest of the family would make a big fuss of the cauli/brocolli/roast pots and I'd put the tiniest portion on his plate.

He now happily tucks in and the other day, DH was eating some quiche and DS rushed over "whats that? Can I try it?" when DH peeled himself off the floor, DS ate the lot
