doctor has given me a pump of something 'sorry don't know the correct term', basically squeeze liquid up her bum and the liquid forces everything out, she is now on liquid lacatives but she has past another 4 days with nothing.

Sorry none but if you are not happy with the treatment, dont be shy about going back for more info, or another option, or even ask for a referral to a consultant. You could try ringing your local hospital and ask the receptionist which department you would need to speak to, then speak to a consultants sec, she will tell you how to handle your gp regarding requesting a referral.

I have done it my self, takes a little gumption but people are usually eager to help, especially as its a baby.

Sorry your lo is having such a hard time, cc.

My DS2 had this. The health visitor told me to squeeze a few drops of orange juice into cooled boiled water. Worked a treat- so much so that i still owe my friend for cleaning her beautiful cream carpet...projectile poo...but that's another story (thinking about it still makes me cringe.)

please someone put me out of my misery and explain what the various initials such as Ds, DD stand for...I understand you are referring to various offspring but just don't get it.....Idiotic i'm sure but it's driving me mad and I can't contribute until I know!

sarahsails · 20/06/2008 10:16

darling/dear daughter/son/husband/partner etc (number 1,2,3.......etc). there's an acronym list at the top of the page which makes mumsnet suddenly understandable.

Is it lactalose you have been given for her? my dd only used to pooh once a week! I used to really worry about it and was prescribed that stuff - but a midwife said it is not good for them. She wasn't constipated - it was just her way - but 2 weeks sounds a really long time. I would second going to the hospital walk in - they are fab and proper baby doctors who know what they are talking about

Thanks sarahsails- Had been looking for some kind of key but obviously not hard enough! It all becomes much clearer.

My DS had the same problems at around the same age .As sarahsails mentioned fruit juice seemed to cure it after a while....2 weeks is quite a long time though. I used apple juice and diluted 1 fl Oz per 3 fl Oz of boiled water.

AmIDoingThisRight · 20/06/2008 12:04

My DS had this at around this age too - I was frantic with worry and was told to give him suppositories. Didn't want to get into a habit of doing that as had visions of me doing it until he was 18 or something horrendous.

I was assured it wasn't constipation unless he was having real pain and passing rabbit-pellet like stools. He wasn't constipated (at all) - volumes of it when it was eventually pooh day. Constipation isn't to do with the frequency but the texture apparently.

He's breast-fed too - breastmilk is really well digested and breast-fed babies tend to go less often anyway. Now (he's 4 months old) he goes maybe once a week.

Honestly, am learning so much about the kind of things I would never in my previous life have even thought about. Nothing like having a baby to put pay to any squeamishness I may have had.

Thanks for fruit juice going to try it tonight, orange juice is that fresh orange, as l live in a place where you cannot but orange squash.
