attatchment disorder??

My Son, after many, many years trying to find out what is wrong was today diagnosed with attachment disorder.

He is not fostered or adopted and has been loved from the second he was born.

However,

he had a kidney out at 6 months
his dad left when he was 11 months
I went out with someone when he was 2
I met his step dad when he was 3
I got engaged when he was 6
I had my leg removed below knee when he was 6
I got married when he was 7
we were conned out of alot of money in January 08 and nearly lost our house.

Has anyone any advice for me, sorry it is so late I have been searching net but cannot find anything. I also need something to give to school

I know he's not adopted but try adoption uk website - Have loads of info on atttachment as many adopted kids have attatchment disorder.

For schools you may want to buy the book "Inside I'm Hurting" availiable from Amazon at around £12.

Good luck. My little one has attatchment difficulties as a result of being adopted.. It is tricky to deal with as so many people don't understand their behaviour which can be hard work.

Does that mean he feels nothing can be counted on, that anything can be taken away from him?

Sorry no advice, just sympathy.

Not sure what it means yet. He has always been a handful but every time I have gone to places, doctors, child guidance, family, friends etc. they have said its my anxiety, now I have answers I want to find out as much as I can.

Thanks for your help xxxx

Does his school run, or do you have access to a Nurture Group? They can be very helpful in cases of Attachment Disorder.

Have you been linked up with your local CAMHS, as they can also offer help on this

Blandmum · 20/06/2008 17:23

this is a helpful website about nurture groups for his school to have a look at

Hi Martianbishop, I have not been told about anything so any advice you can give would be very welcome. x

this

and

this

are brilliant - written for families who have adopted, but are very easy to read and have great practical things you can do to help, with loads of real life case studies. It might be worth phoning the adoption team at your local social services, as they'll know of local groups/resources who may be able to help.

Hope the links work!

this

is also brilliant, loads of really practical stuff you can build into day to day life without anyone else noticing.

If I remember anything else, I'll come back!
