Hello.

my son has a throat clearing tic which started at Christmas. I had 3 months in my head as a time frame and hoped it might be gone by then, but it hasn’t

if your child has had a throat clearing tic, how long did it last for?

TIA

It’s not something I’ve experienced sorry @footballmadboys. How old are they and are they doing this at Nursery or School?

They are 6. It happens at school and when he’s unoccupied like in the car or watching tv. We ignore it completely but it’s hard at times!!! My worry is others reaction - we went to the cinema recently and it was terrible. Others looking round at us etc.

Ok if they are six you could ring the School Nurse service in your area and ask for some advice?

Have you spoken to his Teacher about his throat clearing? Do they have any other concerns? Just trying to think of ways you can get sone advice without dragging him to the GP and discussing the issue in front of him Flowers

Thank-you. Yes, good ideal. Appreciate your advice.

My son started with tics around the same age. Some came and went in a few weeks, others stuck around longer. The throat clearing was one of the longer ones for us.

The cinema thing is hard. We had the same, people turning around. It does bother you even when you know to ignore it.

If you haven't already, the GP can refer to a paediatrician. Worth getting on the list even if it feels early.
