Unless you're very short of space, I'd say go straight to a single bed. They do look a bit lost in them to start with, but it saves you buying something temporary and all the bedding to go on it.

We got ds1 a toddler bed but bought single bed bedding, (fold sheet in half and tuck excess duvet under). Ds2 will use it too so we will get our money's worth and save a lot of space while they are having to share a room.

We have a toddler bed, which ds1, dd and ds2 have used. I like it primarily because when they fall out it's not too far to fall!

Agree with AMumInScotland.

We went straight to full-size singles with a separate guard rail for our girls and will do the same with DS.

Definitely a single, unless you can get a cheap second hand toddler bed.

Thanks for posting! We bought a pine single bed from mothercare today - its not that much higher than the toddler bed so I don't have any worries about height and will by a baby Dan bed guard on-line as couldn't find it instore.

Awww....he's getting big...
