Nearly 4 year old silly speech

Hi

just wanted to preface this by saying I know this behaviour is probably 100% typical and it’s something she’ll grow out of. Just wondered if anyone has experienced something similar and has any tips with dealing with our own emotions during this phase.

My nearly 4 Y/O daughter is very bright/well spoken and well behaved. Recently she’s started speaking in a silly voice nearly all the time! I’ve noticed more so when she seems over/under stimulated. She draws out her words, drops letters in words which she usually can say very clearly. Generally acts very silly unless she has my undivided attention. I never tell her off for this but tell her that speaking in that voice makes it hard to understand her and I know she can speak very well like a big girl but this hasn’t seemed to change anything. Regretfully I’ve found this new phase quite hard to manage, I find myself irritated after a long day of trying to redirect this. Don’t get me wrong, we play and make up silly stories together. I try to keep her engaged as much as I can.

has anyone been through this?

Have you tried pretending that you can’t hear her when she talks like that? You might have to tell her a couple of times but I’m sure she’ll understand pretty quickly? It’s a tactic used for DC who use whiny voices so might work in this instance.
