Do you think I should let my 10.5 yr old walk home from school?

My dd has sn and goes to another school and I have to split myself between the 2. He does have to cross a main road.

Have you both walked the same route? Is he happy about it? Can someone walk with him for the first few days?

Only you can tell really.

My ds is about the same age. I let him walk home on his own for the first time last week; his younger sis had afterschool activity. Its about 0.75 of a mile and he had to cross the main road. We walk a lot together, so I had been letting him decide when we should cross the road for ages beforehand, so knew he was responsible. He is so proud of himself and has done it a few more times since - although he's normally only a minute or two in front of us!
It's tricky, but you have to let go at some point and give them responsibility gradually. I think of when I was 10 and know I had a lt more freedom than he has

A 10.5 year old is certainly capable of that journey (well I know I did it every day and there was a main road!!).

But the question is are you ready to let him try??

The main road bit would worry me. Is there no crossing at all?

I've started letting my DS walk home twice a week (he's 9 1/2)but he has no main road to cross.

It really depends on how sesible/able he will be crossing the road, and only you know that. You have to go with your gut insitinct.

My DS 11 has been walking half way for a couple of months now, this week he has started to walk all the way, but he is with a friend and they are able to use a canal towpath to go under the main road and a side road to avoid the busy crossroads. I would worry about crossing the main road, but only you know how sensible/road aware your DS is.
