7 year old just started weeing on the carpet literally out of no where!

My 7 year old just got up from watching TV, walked behind the sofa, started weeing on the carpet and then when I said what on earth are you doing seemed to snap out of a trance and burst into tears hysterically apologising and has been crying for half an hour. What's going on? He wasn't angry when it happened. He seems absolutely aghast at himself. He's had no toileting problems since he was about 3. Could he have just been extremely distracted? Has anyone else had anything like this, should I be concerned? TIA

I would guess he was probably half asleep and Sleep walking.

But it could also be something slightly more serious, like confusion after an absence seizure, so please keep an eye on if things like the "trance" happen again.

Yes that was my thought too.

All you can do right now is just keep an eye out and see if he has any periods of not being responsive again.

Thank you for your responses, I just had a quick Google, and will keep an eye out. It definitely seemed like an unconscious type thing.

We've had similar instances after absence seizures. Look out for periods of unresponsiveness such as staring into space and not responding to touch or voice. Also eyes rolling and eyelids fluttering.
