Letter recognition /spelling at 26 months

Was wondering what others' experience was with letter recognition /spelling at around 26 months. My son picked up a sign he hasn't seen before today and spelt S.T.O.P.

He likes letters but isn't fixated on them. His speech is slightly delayed but starting to explode he has about 50 words some quite complex (purple etc) but his sentences are still not really comprehensible. His receptive language is advanced. In all other areas he is doing great, very physically active and interested in many things and very social with children and adults.

It could be hyperlexia I guess or maybe it's normal for this age was just wondering others experience?

I have a son of a similar age who can identify some letters, mainly linked to his name but also o and a. But definitely couldn't blend them like you've described there.

With regards to speech he has hundreds of words and speaks in sentences of up to 8 words, can count to 20, knows all colours, shapes etc.

My DD knew all her letters, and could read and write CVC words when she was 2 (when she started preschool)
She could also do 100+ piece jigsaws, and was confident with numbers up to 100 at the same time (before her 3rd birthday)
she wrote her first story aged 3 (when I was upstairs feeding her baby sister).
At just 6 years and 1 month old she stood up and read / performed a beautiful poem at her Grandfathers funeral, to a room that was so full it was standing only with others standing outside....

She is now 14.
She has an academic scholarship at a top independant school.
Her CAT4 tests predict that she will get a 9+ at GCSE in every subject.
She has consistently got best in school for things like maths challenge, debra coding challenge etc (scoring higher than children several years above her; all children at this top school, including those who also have the academic scholarship for their own year group.... her school is both primary and senior, so she has beaten children in seniors while still in primary etc)

Yes, some children can just do things like this at an early age.... my DD is one of them. I dont think it's "normal" though, more the exception.

(lots of people don't like to hear it though and either think you are lieing or blame you..... several of her teachers have commented that she is the most gifted child they have come across in their career)
