My baby is now 10 months old. He can sit unaided really well. But that’s about as far as it goes he can’t roll, crawl. He will take food off me but most of the time he will drop it but won’t physically pick it up off his plate. He doesn’t babble a lot at all but was saying dada but havnt heard that for a while. He won’t bear weight on his legs either. He has what looks like shudder attacks regular.
hes been referred to iscan and physio by HV and also referred to paediatric by the gp but is a 22 week waiting list. He twists his wrists a lot and constantly grunting. Has anyone experienced the same and everything turned out ok?

There are some real positives in what you say. Firstly twisting wrists is completely normal at this age. Lots of babies do it and it’s only an issue usually if it goes beyond toddlerhood.

The other good thing is that you’ve been referred.

All of the evidence says suggests that early intervention gives the best outcome.

Are you due to see the HV again? I would ask her for a referral for a hearing test, just to rule out Glue Ear.

I would also ask her for a referral to Portage.

If you do this progress checker from Speech & Language Therapy they will send you some resources that you can use to help him with communication.

Has anyone suggested starting to use Makaton with him yet?

aw that’s good to hear that it can be a normal thing for them to do! HV said she will come back in 3 months to do another assessment on him but in the mean time I should hear back off iscan etc to see where we go from there. I think my major concern is him not meeting any milestones. Praying he will just catch up soon. I will definitely speak to HV though and request a hearing test as I didn’t even think of that. Thank you very much!

That’s ok. It is really good that he’s in the system early as waiting lists can be long. It’s also good that the HV is doing further assessments. In our experience they were only too happy to ignore our concerns and forget about DC2.
