Feeling disappointed that cranial osteopathy seems to be making no difference to my ds. Was I expecting too much?

He's had two of the three sessions that the osteopath recommended. Has cried and whinged/wriggled throughout them both, with no real change afterwards either . I had heard/read so many positive things about CO. The osteopath said he felt that there was 'tightness' around back of ds' head and would be working on that and that 3 sessions should help. DS has also been teething - got first tooth through a couple of weeks ago, and second one just popped out of gum over yesterday and today - would that interfere with effects of CO?

TBH part of me is just wondering if I am grasping at straws with it anyway and that I just have to accept that ds' personality is basically demanding and quite whingy. I think it's actually me who needs CO! I've stuggled to cope with him since he was born and I don't know how much of it is just that I don't seem to manage babies very well (also have dd, 3 yrs, who is playing up a lot at moment). Any advice?

Yeah, I got all that crap too! It's all Derren Brown stuff.
Look into the eyes, not around the eyes
Look, baby doesn't like it, it costs hard cash and it's making no difference...get the pedicure!

Is that aimed at me?

I had exactly the same concerns Peggotty with my ds - was so concerned about him being whingey and demanding in comparison to pfb dd assumed must be something wrong, desperately sought answers to find out what that thing could be.

Have come to conclusion my boy just whingey and demanding and is my job to get over it, not his, he will grow out of it soon enough. My mum swears it's because he's just like my Dad, but then they divorced 15 years ago so maybe she would! He has got a bit better - now 1, can do more stuff to keep himself occupied - but still a struggle.

Actually MsDemeanor, I do know a CO who told a friend there was nothing wrong with her child at all. Friend was gutted and was hoping it was answer to all her DD's sleep problems.

Very true, I think it's just hard to believe it is a phase when he has been like this for 10 months which is why I think cranial osteopathy appeals to people like me who are desperately wanting things to improve. If it is a con then it's incredibly cruel as it really was my last resort. Ahh well!

I don't think CO a con. Mine fixed neck problem in DD after tricky ventouse birth - she would not turn her head in one direction at all due to discomfort. I know plenty of other stories of near miraculous results, including one from very sceptical GP friend. As with all things like this though, some ailments react better to treatment than others, some practitioners better than others, some plain luckier than others.

Sometimes feeling like you are doing something - anything - positive to deal with a frustrating situation makes it seem better.

MsDemeanor - safe to say you're a bit of a sceptic about it then!?

LavenderMist - My mum says my brother was a horrendous whinge-bag baby and became a delightful child as soon as he could walk!

I do think that CO can help some people/babies, but possibly not mine - it can't change personality can it?! I don't think it is a con, definately not, I do think I was expecting too much. I did actually go into it thnking it wasn't going to help because the issue is really his nature, but I was still sort of 'in denial' then iykwim. DH, dd and I spent a lot of today just driving around in the car to kill time because ds has been on one of his 'crying for no apparent reason' days. Then when we got home he spent about 15 minutes giggling at my dd dancing!! Ruddy Jekyll and Hyde!

We had 3 sessions of CO recently when DS was about 6wks old. I was informed that 3 things can knock them off key again but can only remember 2! One was accidents, the other growth spurts. 3 was possibly teething as it rings a bell! We're going through that stage now but I can't afford to go for any further treatments.
I would absolutely much rather spend money on a non invasive therapy like CO than shove calpol down DS's throat...one goes to the source of the problem, the other only treats the symptoms.
Have the 3rd session, as someone else said it can't do any harm. I didn't notice any changes until after the final session, but ultimately although it didn't totally stop the colicky crying, it did stop the reflux Ds suffered with. Things were a lot better but not perfect after that!
