worried about 19 weeks old 'staring into space'

has anyone else had this? my little boy is 19 weeks old, and for the past week or so will just stare off into space.. whilst feeding, playing etc... everything stops when he does this. his usual frantic movements (he's an active fella) cease, his usual breathing pattern really slows, and his eyes glaze and stare at an invisible spot.

if he does it mid feed then he doesn't take food, nor can be tempted by my putting things to his lips.

should i be worried or is this normal?

thanks for any advice you can give!

Sorry no idea, is it possible he is just daydreaming.

You know just switching off when he gets overloaded, lets face it adults do it.

asleep with his eyes open? It's a possibility?

Both mine did this, like they were thinking so imo nothing to worry about, but if you are, have a chat to your hv.

If you can distract him out of it by saying his name, making a sudden movement etc then I wouldn't worry. He will be thinking an awful lot atm, a big time for development around 19/20 weeks. DD has always done this, just drifts off, sometimes she does it and then laughs so heavens knows what she's thinking about.

Is he otherwise well?

efmc · 16/06/2008 13:44

hmmmm, am now a little bit more worried, as he doesn't snap out of it when i make sudden movements or clap hands etc...

will mention it to HV tomorrow when he gets his 3rd lot of jabs.

he's othwrwise well, apart from a snuffly nose and slight cough

Could it be "petite mal"? A form of epilepsy where there is no fitting, just absences.

My sister has it, and it wasn't diagnosed until she was 22, because it seemed to be nothing.

Hope you sort it. Good luck

Sorry I know this is old. Did you ever get to the bottom of it?

My little girl did this and as I had epilepsy I went to get her checked.
She had and mri and 30 minute eeg and was wrongly diagnosed with epilepsy. I pushed & changed hospitals and she had a 2 24 hr eegs and they said she didn’t have it.

I went into serious depression/ guilt when we had the first diagnosis.

I also have a lot of these and when I had a 24 hr eeg I was told they were nothing.

For anyone looking at this post in the future please do raise with your gp but please do not jump to the worst conclusion ❤️❤️

Happy for anyone to PM me questions if you need to. I have been living with this for 20 years x
