Tip toe walking

Hi,
My lo is 16 months. She was born 7 weeks early. She has been walking the past 4 months with her feet flat on the ground. Since yesterday she has been tip toe walking. Of course i had to google it and straight away it says autism. She answers to her name, she interacts with us and she plays and pretends play and has words. Just wondering is this normal at this age and do other kids do it?

Thanking you for reading my thread.

I think it might be prolonged tiptoe walking that is an indicator of ASD but if you’re worried you could fill in the 18 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages Flowers

My two year old still loves tip toe walking, no other red flags for autism. I just think she likes the feel of it and will be very skilled at walking in high heels if she decides to wear them when she’s older.

A bit of tiptoe walking is part of typical development – it's experimenting with balance and movement, just like hopping, jumping, slithering like a snake, etc. If she's only been doing it for a couple of days, it's very likely that it's just that she's discovered that she can and is enjoying her new skill. If it becomes her primary way of walking for a long period of time, then it can be a concern.

One day of tip toe walking and you think that constitutes autism.. good grief. Stop googling and enjoy her. She’s just learnt how to stand on her tip toes

Is the floor cold? My son tip-toed briefly around this age and I realised the floor was cold 😂 I noticed he only did it on the laminate, not the carpet

I wouldn't worry, it's very common at this age! If it's still happening all the time past the age of 3 then I'd recommend getting it checked out, but it's still so early 🙂

My three and a half year old will randomly walk on his tippy toes when he doesn't have shoes on. I think it can be a development and experimental thing they do.
