Wondering if anyone’s little one was the same but turned out ok. My little boy is 9 months old nearly 10 months he can sit unaided but doesn’t physically move . He won’t roll nothing, he would sit in one place for ages if I leave him there. He doesnt like playing he will just grunt when you try to interact with him. He can grasp on to little objects but that’s about it. Also won’t weight bare no matter how much I try.

If he’s not weight bearing I would take a trip to the GP, they will need to check his hips.

I think from what you’ve said you also need to see your HV.

I’d give her a call and say what you’ve said here and that you’d like him assessed using both of the Ages & Stages:

9 month Ages & Stages

and the 12 month Social and Emotional Ages & Stages.

Don’t worry too much about the scores.

With the first assessment don’t worry too much. It’s perfectly normal for them to score in the grey in a couple of areas. If he scores in the black in any area, or scores over 50 in the second assessment I linked to, he’ll need a referral to a Paediatrician, just to work out what’s going on. If that’s the case, I’d also ask the HV for a referral to Physio, a hearing test and Portage Flowers

Forgot to add, if the HV does wabt to adopt the “wait and see approach” please insist that she sees him again in a month and ask her to make the appointment with you there and then. The problem that can arise is that your LO can just get forgotten if you’re not insistent.

We have seen the health visitor now. She have referred him to physio and iscan. He is showing signs of development delay now it’s the case of waiting for weeks for a letter 😩

I know thibgs aren’t turning out for you as you planned @Dream133and I can understand your upset.

If you want to take a look in the SN Chat or the SN Children sections the MNers in there are usually very supportive and can talk you through hpw you’re feeling and through things like what will happen now and applying for DLA.

Can you get back in touch with the HV and ask of she can also refer him to Portage? I’m not sure that’s covered by iscan

Dream133 · 22/01/2026 20:56

Thank youn What is portage please? Also why would I need dla?

Portage can help him through plsy and it should also support you. There is more about Portage here.

I think you should apply for DLA. It’s a gateway benefit. I can understand your upset not seeing the reason now but he will probably need more care than his peers. Things like pushchairs for longer.

Are you due back at work soon?

Portage

Portage is the home visiting educational service A service gives people what they need, like healthcare services that help people when they are ill, and support services that give people support. for preschool children with SEND and their families

Thanks for the info. I wouldn’t be able to apply for anything as they havnt actually said there any thing wrong with him other than a delay in development which surely sometimes they can just be a bit slower and eventually catch up. I’ve taken him to the doctors today and they’ve said his muscle tone feels perfect but referring him aswell to the paediatric

He may catch up, you’re right although he may need SaLT, OT, Physio and Portage to help him achieve that.

It’s fine if you don’t want to apply for DLA but do bear it in mind if he hasn’t, for instance, caught up in the next 6 months as it’s a gateway benefit.

Also bear in mind that the benefit is based on need rather than diagnosis meaning that you don’t have to have a formal diagnosis before you apply Flowers

Thank you for that information really helpful I will keep that in mind.
