11 month old tall baby wobbly sitting

Hello, I’m sorry if this has been posted a few times. My baby has just turned 11m and is behind on gross motor skills. He is able to prop sit but sitting unaided isn’t happening yet bar a few seconds before he topples over.

He’s a tall baby with a long trunk (95th centile for head/length/weight) I’ve taken him to a physio who has said he needs to work on his core muscles and he’ll get himself there in time. I’m beyond worried that something else is going on. He can roll both ways, is belly shuffling but sitting independently with no propping on his hands / crawling etc isn’t happening yet.

Our physio says he is strong but has a bit low tone in his core but didn’t seem too concerned. They didn’t seem to think anything else was going on.

Has anyone been through this with tall / long bodied children? Finding it hard to chill.

Does he bear weight on his legs @Pcosdegallo and when he rolls is it en bloc?

Hi I wondered how you’re getting on? I could have written this post myself now. In the exact same position more or less. My baby is a year in early March and is army crawling but not pulling to stand, can’t get into sitting and really doesn’t like independently sitting. Also very tall and has larger head (99th centile on both)

I’m not sure the OP is coming back @Pommevert

Hello ! Sorry I didn’t see the notifications for this. So he is now sitting unaided (hurray), rolls pretty well but has been doing that since he was 5/6m - I would say creep crawling now - definitely no tummy off the floor but can see a few attempts at hands/knees. I found getting a private physio appointment was good @Pommevert if it’s within means as we got given some exercises to try and it made it painfully obvious how he’s not had enough floor time.

@SleafordSodssorry I didn’t see your previous reply, what does en bloc rolling mean?

Ah that’s fantastic! We have been going to private physio for the last few months, she hasn’t seemed concerned but on his last visit we scored low in the Alberta motor scale, so it concerned me a bit! I got him a little set of steps foam play set and it seems to be making him use his legs a bit more. We are commando army crawling now and I’m hoping he’ll eventually go to hands and knees crawling. My main focus now is to try to get him to go from lying to sitting. When we went to view a crèche all the kids were walking but the physio and dr have said it’ll likely be 18 months before he’s walking and to be honest knowing that has taken the pressure off! They also mentioned hypermobility too- but I think I maybe haven’t given him enough floor time, we were doing a lot of walks and activities and now I’m trying to dial it back and hoping he catches up. Glad to hear it’s going well for you!
