3yo DD scared of toilet, only uses potty

DD just turned three and is scared she will fall into the toilet - even a small toilet, even with me or someone else holding onto her the whole time.

Nursery have told me she is having accidents and choosing not to go all day because of this. I asked to bring the potty in and they said no.

They asked me to talk with her after nursery. Basically she said she's worried she will fall in and just doesn't want to use it, end of.

I've asked nursery if we can start something like a star chart to help her and am waiting to hear back.

Oh bless her - maybe obvious but have you used one of the potty seats that go on toilets, makes it a bit more secure? We have trouble with this too on big toilets.

Do they have the small kids toilets at her nursery? Or do they have a seat with a smaller seat in it? Do they have their own potties or do they just refuse to empty them? Is it actually possible for her to fall in as that seems not right for a nursery. Sorry for all the questions!

Poor little girl. The fear is real.

We bought a new house when I was three years old. I remember the moving van left with my dad and sister and my mum and I were traveling to new house on her bike (1950's). As mum started to peddle away from our old house, to my horror I saw my yellow potty next to the bin! I must have asked her WTH? She told me I was big enough to use the big toilet at the new house.

I was scared to death of sitting on the big toilet. I thought my little bum was going to fall down it and I'd end up swimming with the fishes. Instead I ended up with an anal fissure from holding it too long.

Other than that, she was a good mum.

Thank you all
They are small child-sized toilets at nursery. I think the main issue is that her feet might not touch the ground - I was talking to a friend who works in childcare who said it's actually a very insecure feeling to have to relax to go to the toilet while also engaging your core muscles to balance.
Have spoken again to nursery who have said they are guiding her to go and are confident she will get over the feeling of uncertainty, so will cross fingers, and ask whether she can have a step stool if that is the issue.
