since returning back to school after the Christmas holidays my 6yr old is having such a hard time, everynight he starts crying and says he dosnt want to go to school because he’s finding maths so hard, we have had a meeting at the school before Christmas because he is showing signs of dyscalculia however he’s to young to be assessed so basically everything is staying the same for now :(

I validate his feelings but it’s so so hard to see him so upset and scared. We have it every evening and even in the morning (he use to be fine going before Christmas) any tips welcome, breaks my mamma heart that he’s having such a hard time with maths and it’s making him feel this way towards school.

thank you

That is so typically lame from the school. Of course he is not too young to be assessed. Of course there is loads they can out in place to make things easier for him. Poor child. Maths can be made fun and accessible for all ages what on earth are they doing to make it so awful for a little boy of his age. Go back to the school and lay down the law and out things in writing. It sounds like it has got really bad. This is how it starts and why so many are turning to home ed and you will soon have a school refuser on your hands and I don’t blame him. He is really being let down.

Yes I know it’s so sad, this morning he put on a brave face but I can see how worried he is and all I want to do is bring him back home :(

I will call them today to have another meeting and see what we can put into place to help him with this, we play a lot of maths games at home that he loves and he’s improving, but he dreads the lessons at school, it’s like he has anxiety he’s started chewing the sleeves of his tops loads and is just so down about it.
