dd2 is 13 months and she has just started to rock back and to. Its never for long (yet) and it mainly seems to be when she is tired or frustrated.

My other two never did anything like this so am at a loss. She also head bangs on occaision too.

I'm a bit worried is this normal?

Apart from what you have already described, are there any other concerns you have about your dd?

I would monitor when your dd rocks/head-bangs to see if there is any kind of trigger or not. You could also ensure that she is in a soft area for when she head-bangs. Is your dd distressed when she is rocking/head-banging? Is she trying to 'block' anything out?

She may just like the sensation of engaging in these behaviours. I would wait awhile yet before getting too concerned, she is still very young.

Don't have any advice but i can share my experience of this with you.
My son started banging his head and rocking from the age of 1, it started in his bed when tired then progressed to banging anywhere and anytime. He's now 2 1/2 and still does this on and off throughout the day and night. We have seen the paedatrician health visitor etc, and they have all said to IGNORE this as it is an attention thing,it's usually intelligent kids that do this, when frustrated and tired, and can go on to the age of 4! looking back to when this started, i think we did use to go to him and give him attention when banging. We have a beanbag to put our son onto when he starts. As ours has been going on for such a long time now, it's developed into a habit, it drives us crazy
Hope you can put an end to this as you don't wont to end up like us in a couple of years time! Good Luck

thanks to the both of you!

She is a bright little spark lol, very cheeky, she walked at 9 months and she is into everything!

She does have tantrums, throwing self on floor, banging her head, and screaming if she is thwarted. and she is an excellent climber, she can climb onto the sofa and then onto the window sill!
I've got no other concerns at the moment with her.. but maybe time will tell.
