ARFID in a near teenager

Avoidant restrictive food intact disorder.

My daughter is 12 and showing all the signs of ARFID. She has always been difficult around food and has recently admitted she will only eat her safe foods as she's frightened of choking. One of her safe foods is pizza but if the cheese is too think she wont eat it. She has never choked.

She is now of an age where she says she wants to tackle it. I saw a programme on it years ago with a young boy and I remember he worked through his issues with a specialist. Does anyone with experience know what kind of specialist I need? I will pay privately.

Anyone got any tips on how to tackle this, or any success stories?

Thanks

DD has a diagnosis of ARFID. There is the Brrmingham Food Refusal Service but the greatest factor for DD has been time. She can still refuse food, and does so regularly, but has a far wider range foods she will eat.

ARFiD is usually diagnosed alongside ASD though, does she have a diagnosis for that?

That's useful thanks. DD is 12. She got a dyslexia diagnosis at 7. I recently spoke to a specialist in reference to my son being assessed and he said they no longer diagnose dyslexia as a disease on its own as its a symptom of something else.
My daughters dad has just been diagnosed with autism and ADHD so its likely she had autism I would say. Although not as bad as her dad's.

Do you think I should get her assessed for autism then before progressing with Arfid treatment? Ive asked for a GP appointment as thats apparently the way to get referred to a specialist for ARFID but ill be paying for everything privately so I can look at an autism assessment first.

Thanks
