Toddler ENT Referral

My 19 Month old toddler has been referred to ENT as I suggested to a nurse at the hospital he might have fluid behind his ears.
He’s been sick nearly every week since starting Nursery, his viral infections always turn into broncholitis but he suffers with ear infections a lot.
He is teething super bad with his canines. In the past I’ve put him grabbing his ears down to teething, however with the recurrent ear infections and the fact he’s 19 months and has a speech delay I think there could be a problem with his ears. Nursery have raised concerns about his speech being slower but he’s on track with everything else. He used to say Mama and Dada around 12 months up until 15 months and he has said nothing for around 3/4 months.

He was always a happy baby but the past few weeks especially he has been really miserable. He is constantly screaming when he isn’t crying. I know temper tantrums start at this age but this screaming is 24/7. He used to have a great routine even with his sleep but these past few weeks he won’t sleep unless I’m holding him or next to him, meaning he won’t sleep alone in his cot. He’s waking up multiple times in the night. He has always been a mummy’s boy due to my partner working long hours and night shifts but he is glued to me 24/7. I know he’s been poorly and just wants his mum but he did used to enjoy independent play. He doesn’t want to play with his toys much anymore and just throws them in frustration.

Has anyone had a similar experience and had successful treatment ENT? I’ve read about fluid behind the ears and ear draining. I do think this could be a possibility for causing him pain in his ears.

Besides from the illnesses at nursery, he is a healthy boy, eat and drinks great. Loves his fruit and veg, some protein. I bath him every day, brush his teeth twice a day, get out on lots of walks - usually before the screaming got bad.

The illnesses have been a solid 4 month run of week after week. On top of this my Grandma who has been like a Mum to me, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, my little brother was involved in a bad car crash I had to deal with due to absent parents, and I have been diagnosed with endometriosis due to extremely bad periods. So I’m feeling low and I’d just like to hear some positive ENT referrals that we might be getting somewhere.

Or If anyone has any suggestions on what else it could be? I’m going to reach out to my health visitor after Christmas too

Ds had ear infections from 10 weeks old until 20 months when they put grommets in. He'd have them roughly every 10-14 days through Autumn, Winter, Spring with slightly less in the Summer months.

He had glue ear, and it's definitely worth getting that checked out.
