Its in all of the parenting books isnt it, yet me and some of my relatives ahve very different opinions on what they are and how far they should go or be held back.

Are you a laid back parent or are you strict...and why are you this way?

I have certain issues we will not compromise with, like table manners, politeness, hygiene, bed time and violence.

I believe these are things that they need to learn to be able to lead a good and functional life when adults.

To me they are not up for discussion, ever.

Most everything else I am happy to discuss, and won't be too fed up if the DC's act up.

With anything else the context is what matters, so I don't feel I can judge them as a whole but must decide on a daily basis.

Also, I believe children should be allowed to push boundries to a certain extent, we don't want them to grow up with no mind of their own.
