Molar Teething / Toddler quieter than normal

Hello.

My little boy is 17 months and over the last (6 weeks maybe even 2 months he’s very slowly had four teeth come in including two molars, the second only just broken the skin) it’s been a very long few weeks for him. I’m just worrying about him a little bit more this week as he seems really quiet.

He’s always been a loud baby, babbled from early on. Everyone’s always told me he’s so “vocal” and we used to laugh because he march up to you babbling as if he was telling you off. He has still been doing this every now and then. Only he had started saying maybe 10 words + for the last couple of months and I never worried about his speech until now.

He used to copy words I’d say or attempt anything I asked him to say back to me. That’s quieted down now so I’m in a panic. There’s the odd word he is still saying just not on demand I guess? I know he must be in a lot of pain and he seems more tired as well (checked him over for any illness but he’s fine in himself) I guess I’m wondering if anyone’s experienced speech slowing down because of teething?

the internets scary and can tell you so many thing that could be wrong. I ask my HV and she said hopefully just teething and said keep doing what I’m doing chatting to him and reading etc. her not being too concerned did ease my mind but naturally as his mum I cannot stop overthinking it.

Just wondering if this really could just be him being grumpy about his teeth or just not in the mood to chat? Like his personality coming out a bit and one day I’ll have a 6 year old who bumps his knee and doesn’t feel like talking or something 😅 when I say it like that if I was in pain with toothache I wouldn’t be very chatty either.

just seeing I’ve any other parents experienced this?

It is very normal for them to stall on skills if they’re not feeling great.

Does he become more like his usual self if he’s had pain relief?
