Baby milestones- 3 month old trying to sit???

Hi everyone,
I have a 3 month old and shes been sitting up on her own (not exactly). I'll have her in a seated position on my knees as if shes in a car seat, then shell grab my fingers and pull herself into a seated position- im not pulling her up. She can hold her head really well and is trying to roll too, but is this "sitting" normal behaviour for a 3 month old? I dont want to cause any longer term damage with her spine/muscles in back and legs bit shes doing it on her own so dont necessarily want to discourage it.

No this is not normal. First rolling, then crawling, then sitting. You are enabling her to be in a position that is not natural for her and no probably not good for the spine. What does she do during tummy time? Totally normal to be able to hold her head though

I also dont think propping her up on your knees is good. Yes ib a car seat OK but it is advised they spend limited time in a car seat.

During tummy time she will lift her head with good control and is rolling over onto her back consistently. Shes met all milestones for her age in this regard

I only do it for a short while. Car seat is advised no longer than 30 minutes if they travel often. I only have her upright against my thighs for around 15 minutes. She needs to remain upright after feeds due to reflux and difficulty with burping to help her tummy settle. I struggle holding her for a long time due to back problems from pregnancy and birth. She is perfectly safe. I just find when she grasps my hands she pulls herself into a seated position. The way I sit her on me, she is fully supported.

Just to add, I didn't explain very well in my original post. I lay down, her seated on my stomach with her back and head supported on my thighs while my legs are bent. Shes not actually sat on my knee- I only do that to wind her

My son was like this. He had remarkably good head control from birth, I get freaked out holding other newborns as he was never that fragile.

As long as you don't let her do it for an excessive amount of time and focus on regular tummy time (I did 10-15m after every nappy change), she's probably just one of those babies that developed a lot of strength in the womb from excess kicking!

He rolled, crawled and walked at the earliest opportunity. Just focus on helping her develop even coordination.

My son had really good head control from birth, we have videos of him at 1 day old holding his head up for ages, we couldn’t believe it! He would also pull himself into a sitting position and was sitting at 4 months. As long as you’re not having her in a sitting position all day it’s fine! There is a huge range of ‘normal’ for milestones and development
