Should i be worried about suffocating??

My 5 month old ds as of last night has starting sleeping on his side with his teddy foot (not a small foot) held against his face. It is so sweet to see, but im alittle concerned about wether he might suffocate.

Last night was the first night in a long time that he didnt wake in the night for his dummy so he has abviously found the teddy as comfort thing to resettle himself, so i dont want to take it away if i dont have to.

What do you all think??

I wouldn't be too concerned really as he will probably move once he is asleep anyway and if something was preventing him from breathing normally I would imagine he would definately move his head. My DS slept on his side from about the same age and then started to sleep on his tummy, which he still does. Sometimes I go to see him and he is practically face down on the bed but he seems so comfortable and relaxed. No matter how many times I try to move his head he ends up back in that position.

My dd sleeps on her tummy with her piglet squished up against her nose. Have you tried to breath through the teddy yourself? I think at 5 months your ds should be able to move away if he was having trouble.

He should be fine. If he's positioning the teddy or himself, then he will be able to reposition if he needs to do so.

Just you wait - some of the postures the LOs take up when sleeping are totally freaky. Ds1 used to sleep on his front with his whole face in his teddy's lap!

Not the same but at around this age ds started sleeping completely face down, and I mean totally flat out on the mattress so I couldnt see any of his face. Scared the life out of me but got reassurance on here that he would move if he needed to and he was of course fine. Seems similar to me in that he will move his head away from the teddy if he needs to, and if it helps him sleep I bet the last thing you want to do is take it away!
