I'm panicking about ds after baby clinic- hormone prob or just big baby?

Ds is pretty big and has been since birth. After weighing him today the HV said there may be a concern that his weight gain could be due to a hormone problem. She ummed and aahed, saying it could just be that he's a big boy but it may be a hormone issue and in the end she went off to speak to the other HV in hushed tones for a few minutes before the other HV came over, looked at his growth chart and said she thought he was just a big boy and not to worry because you couldn't overfeed a breastfed baby.
Of course I am worrying. HV no.1 said you'd expect to see a growth chart like ds's with early weaning or a hormone issue and expressed huge surprise when I said I was still exc bfing.
Please tell me anything you can about anything I've said Ds feeds every 2-3 hours and usually only from one side. Each feed lasts about 10 minutes (thought this meant he must be pretty good at feeding?)
Of course all this happened in front of all the other mums who had no choice but to listen in while I welled up during their musings

My ds1 also made his own line on the chart. He's now 3 and come down a bit but is still huge compared with his friends. My very good HV just said that there has to be babies at the top and at the bottom and she was more concerned that the baby was in proportion.

She left the clinic just as ds2 was born - asked her how often he needed to be weighed. Her response was that as long as her was weeing, pooing and growning out of clothes he didn't really need to be weighed. Have followed her advise and feel it's a relief to get out of the worry. He's just been for his 8 mnth check and haven't even looked to see what he was.

Hope the GP makes you feel better. Maybe you could make a suggestion that the clinic needs to be a bit more private - how are mums able to discuss anything confidentially?

I guess that's a good point re the confidentiality but think they'd just say if it's sensitive we should phone or make an appointment.
Ds is in proportion- so far his height, head circ and weight line have been roughly the same.

If your son's height, weight and head circumference have remained pretty much in proportion, that's very reassuring - it must be an exceptionally rare hormone "problem" to create a baby who is totally in proportion but just larger than most other babies his age. The charts do not, in any event, record the weights and heights of ALL babies - as with most statistical things, the very tiniest and the very largest get left off the reckoning. If your husband is 6' 4'', it's perfectly possible for his son to be off the charts at this point. If your husband were of average height, it might be of more concern.

I wouldn't worry too much to be honest. I know it's easier said than done though! My ds was 8lbs 10 at birth but by 14 weeks was 19lbs, he is 9 months now and is well over 25lbs but he slowed down a lot once he was on solids. Breast milk has a LOT of calories in it and I'm sure he'll level off soon. My ds is still big for his age and wears 12-18 month clothes which are getting a bit tight now! He's just tall and broad and cuddley! I wouldn't worry overly but keep an eye on it.
