Child rubbing herself raw

Hi all- my daughter has just started reception. She seems to have settled well and goes in happily and always seems to have had a good day at pickup. When she was nursery age, she would occasionally lie on the floor and rub her vagina between her legs. She did it at home a few times and at nursery (they told us) and so we spoke to her and explained that that was private and if she wanted to do it she should do it in her bedroom but not in public and not at nursery. The issue just seemed to go away. However, she has started to rub a lot in the last couple of weeks since starting school, to the point that she has made herself sore! I think it’s a comfort thing because she’s been tired and also has a rotten cold, and obviously she’s just started somewhere new. I’ve spoken to her about it and said that because she is so sore down there now, she needs to stop doing it at all for a while or she might get poorly. This afternoon at bath time I noticed she was so sore down there. I was asking her about it and she said she been doing it a lot on the carpet at school and that no one stopped her. This is frustrating because when we spoke about it over recent days she was really clear that she’d been doing it on her room and not at school. None of the teachers have said anything to me but for her to be that red, she must have really been going for it for some time at school! Do you think I should mention it to the teachers and ask them to watch out for it and to divert her when she starts? I don’t want to cause a big fuss, but also don’t want doing this in public to become a big habit. Thanks for your thoughts!
