DS3(12 weeks) cried for most of yesterday and last night. it is turning into another crying day today and i don't know why he is is not obviously in pain, no temp, he is fed, clean nappy, not too hot, not too cold, been cuddled, and all of that.

not trapped wind as he trumps away quite happily. I am running out of things to try to calm him (even holding him doesn't work!)

is he teething? my ds started teething at 6 weeks put corner of flannel in freezer and rub it round his gums may soothe any inflammation and will help toughen them up for any teeth moving around in there

also put some bonjela on them its horrible when you dont know what it is but it was teething for my ds as soon as i applied flannel it soothed him straight away

there is no redness in his mouth

had forgotten all about teething, need to go to shops for some bits later will add teething "stuff" to the list!

Does he settle if you walk around with him and show him things? My ds got very frustrated as he was more awake than a newborn but no more capable of doing anything if you see what I mean! Could be teething, try Ashton and Parsons powders, I find them to be fab, bonjella is meant to be good but very messy and tends not to help my ds but it could help yours!

Is he over tired maybe? How is he sleeping? Just trying to think of everything! For what it's worth, my ds was always like this and is just a grumpy baby even now at 9 months. If he's previously been happy then I think there is probably something bothering him.

Let us know if the teething stuff helps!

bubblagirl · 02/06/2008 15:59

my ds had no obvious signs of teething to begin with just cried to let me know something was bothering him manged to work my way down on list of things and teething gel seemed to do the trick

good luck hope he settles lots of sore throats going round so could even be coming down with cold always find my ds even now is hard work for few days before obvious signs of anything

Meandmyjoe · 02/06/2008 16:43

Oh yeah, was gonna say, they don't always have red gums if teething. My ds never got any obvious signs of teething either. Didn't have a tempearture, didn't get swollen gums. One day he started refusing his bottle and crying when I tried to feed him (very unusual for him!), it lasted about a week then I noticed a couple of teeth poking through so his gums must have been hurting when he had the bottle in his mouth.

the only things sainsbo had were a weird puzzle teething toy thing (bought it!) and bonjela so bought that too. figured if its not teething now then it will be soon!!

Sometimes he can be consoled by walking around with him but mostly he just cries! He has been ok this evening though. cried a bit so i let him chew on the teething toy thingy and he was ok after a bit.

you would think i would know what to do this being my 3rd!!

How about cranial osteopathy? worked wonders for my friend's LO. Apparently they can get a sort of tension headache, particularly if they had an instrumental delivery, but sometimes just... because. Anyway, I've heard lots of good things about osteopathy, could be worth a try.

BlueDragonfly · 02/06/2008 20:10

money barely stretches to enough food never mind cranial osteopathy!

he is generally a happy baby (thank goodness!)which is probably why this has thrown me tbh
