8 month old difficultly sleeping

So Our DD was doing brilliantly and sleeping from 9pm-6am from around 3-4 months old but in the last month she wakes every 2-3 hours wanting fed. Shes gone from 7oz of formula per feed during the day to only ever stretching to 2-5/3oz but will have 2-3 7oz bottles over night. She is teething and has 2 erupted and 2 just under the gum. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and how long it lasted for?

Sounds as though there is a bit of reverse cycling going on maybe caused by teething? What pain relief are they having in the day? Flowers

We try to use Bonjela and Calpol but it’s a battle to get near her mouth; even wiping her mouth after her bottles is hard work. She hasn’t been interested in solids very much anyways, but now she’s completely off them. I’ve given her teethers including ones from the fridge and strawberries (which she loved).

I think it’s worth trying Ibruprofen rather than Calpol as it’s much better for dental pain. It can be hard getting some babies to take medicine though so I do sympathise Flowers

Thanks for the recommendation ☺️. She’s so difficult to get anything into atm. Shes our first so I have no idea how long she’ll be struggling with teething for 😩

Is it definitely teething? Can you see or feel the teeth coming through?

Yeah, her 2 bottom ones have erupted and are maybe 1/3 of the way through, and you can feel the points of the top ones just under the gum.

Poor girl. You can offer both paracetamol and Ibruprofen if you leave 2 hours between the two.

Sounds like her gums are really sore Flowers

I’m going to get some ibuprofen today and hopefully that will help. I feel awful for her 😔 we had a really bad night last night, she didn’t go to sleep until midnight and has been up 4 times.

Does she have a temperature? Avd are you definitely sure it’s simply teething? Flowers

She doesn’t have a temp and otherwise she seems happy within herself. It just seems to be her oral intake that’s affected and her sleeping, both of which seems to have been affected as soon as her teeth started to make an appearance. I thought maybe as well as her teeth, she was going through a sleep regression and/or growth spurt 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well there is a sleep regression at 9 months so it could partly be that.

I would make sure she has the recommended amount of pain relief today, try a teething gel, like Dentinox, before a bottle or food avd see if you can get more food and formula in her today.

Things like a clean damp flannel to chew on, frozen banana or some chilled cucumber should help to ease her gums.

If she doesn’t improve though you’ll need a GP to check out her ears, throat and tummy Flowers

How to Freeze Bananas (the Easy Way)

Stash your too ripe bananas in the freezer to put to good use later on in smoothies, baked goods, oatmeal, and more and never waste the fruit again.
