My DD, 11 weeks old, has turned into a crazy crying machine over the last 4 days. It's come completely from the left field, she's been a very chilled and content little thing until now.

I think she may be teething - does this cause this sort of behaviour? Is this normal? Have I just been lucky to date and this should be expected?

I feel like I must be missing something, sometimes she is completely inconsolable for no apparent reason and she is also drinking less milk than usual. She had been having 5x 5/6oz bottles and is now on about 4x 4oz bottles. It's really tough her being so upset all of the time.

Yes she did say all babies are different, she is just being a baby and told me I didn't look well

"If in doubt, rule it out" - Love that saying, it's going to be my mantra and will def try flannel thing. My Grandmother thinks she is teething and she had 6 DC, 17 GC and lost track of how many great GC so she knows a thing or two about babies.

my dds been really dribbly (10 weeks) my sis seems to think its the teeth shifting in the gums. have you tried massage if its wind? i had a class yesterday and apparently its good for colic.

I too can vouch for the miraculous properties of gripe water, if you don't get anywhere with the possible teething theory & think it may be down to wind/tummy trouble.

DS had gripe water as he'd often get tummy twinges after his evening feed. Don't know if it was the medicinal properties or the shock of something with such a definite (and un-milky) taste, but it would usually settle him in seconds.

if you do the flannel things several times a day it will toughen the gums up and make further teething less apinful its really good as you can reach all area's teethers dont do what they should as only certain area of mouth they can reach

when more teeth come through im afraid its like trying to tackle jaws i had to give up but if yopu do it 3-4 times a day now all over gums it should toughen them right up before back teeth make an appearance but saying that had hatrdly any problems until back teeth came through

it would seem they hurt bad regardless

used the motto when ds was small he is 3 now and do still ahve to use it was alone alot as dp works away and instead of panicking had a checklist of things and ruled them out one by one if couldnt get to bottpm of it pain killers given and doctors next day

did your hv check in lo mouth for thrush? My ds was like this and I too thought teething, but turned out to be thrush (dribble and shoving things in mouth were becasue of that). You can check yourself- wait till some time after milk and if there is any whiteness in mouth then it could be thrush. If in doubt get doc to check it out. Caused us weeks of misery

Hi mmh, Are you sure that the reflux is sorted by the gaviscon? The symptoms do sound like reflux to me (i was slt feeding specialist and am veteran mother of two who had to use gaviscon on double dose!)

MissingMyHeels · 04/06/2008 13:12

She checked for thrush at my request and said no sign of it.

I thought the reflux was ok because she doesn't cry during feeds or do the gulpy thing anymore although yesterday evening she did lots of clear sick - acid perhaps? Then settled really well.
