Baby with huge appetite

Just reaching out to check if this is normal ?

I have a just turned 7month old boy on the 98th percentile for height and weight at 5 months, but unsure now and his appetite is huge and I am unsure if it’s in the realms of normal?

I do a mixture of BLW and spoon feeding. I give what we eat, also make recipes from Joe Wicks wean in 15 as well as the odd jar of Hipp organic.

Just as an example of 24hrs, last night baby had 3 tablespoons of rice, a piece of white fish ( maybe 7cm X 7cm) with creamed corn and peas, and a kiwi. For breakfast he had a whole banana mashed into aptimal baby rice (4 scoops with 3oz of formula), then a baby wafer as a snack and for lunch he had 2 baby sized (maybe 8cm in diameter and 5 cm thick) broccoli and cheddar scones, tablespoon of cream cheese and half an avocado then homemade stewed apple. In addition he has 28oz of formula in 24hr. He eats everything I give him, no sore Tummies, but fills his nappy with formed stool around 4 or 5 times in 24 hrs I have tried to reduce portions, but he just gets really grumpy during the day.

He is thriving, but I wouldn’t like to think he is being overfed, then again I’ve heard you can’t overfeed a baby ?

I’m just surprised at the amount I think it could sustain a small adult tbh even without the formula.

Does this sound normal ?

I think the easiest way to check is to take him to the next weigh in clinic and see if he’s still on the same centiles as last time he was weighed.

One thing that does stand out though is the fact that you’re making his cereal with formula. Is he allergic to regular cow’s milk?

No allergies. I use formula as per the instructions on the back of the packet, sometimes I make porridge with whole milk and he takes all other dairy products. I also read that milk ( breast or formula) should form the main part of the diet, but it has certainly been displaced as prior to solids he was talking around 49 oz in 24hrs.

If you’re in the UK it’s absolutely fine to use full fat cows milk in goid rather than formula from 6 months. There’s also no neex to buy special cereals aimed at babies.

Instead if the baby rice for breakfast how about some of these:

Banana Pancakes.

Ready Brek with chopped banana and full fat cow’s milk.

Cheese on toast with quartered cherry tomatoes on the side.

Mashed avocado on toast

Porridge Fingers

Thanks, but I feed something different every day so I think the odd bowl of baby rice is fine, I don’t think adding formula to baby rice is the issue here! Really seeking advice on the volumes of food rather than what to feed as my husband and I eat very little processed food most things are made from scratch including bakery items and shop mostly organic.

This guide has information on how often to offer food at this age and portion sizes. Hope you find it useful.
