Baby wind/farting/pooing question!

Not sure if I've posted in the best place for this. FTM to 3 week old and wanted to see if this is normal as Google gives conflicting information.

Background is we initially struggled to get any wind out of our baby and they would be very unsettled so started on infacol on recommendation of midwife. Almost 2 weeks into use baby is now getting rid of wind a lot easier but majority from their bum not their mouth. They were previously struggling - crying and kicking legs, arching back etc... This has now reduced to maybe once a day.

However they now will fart and create a dirty nappy which I then change straightaway...once changed and settled they will do it again and before I go to change again, about 10 mins later they will do it again so if I were changing straightaway that would be 3 dirty nappies within the hour. I don't want to let them sit in poo but don't want to be annoying them with constant changes - which they hate anyway 🙈.

The poo itself can vary from a big amount to then a smaller amount etc - it can sometimes sound worse than what's produced.

This will be after a feed and if not straightaway within an hour or so after. It seems it can take them about 45 mins to get it all out.

Would this be normal for a newborn? Poo looks as expected yellowy colour and seedy - baby is formula fed and is currently on 4oz every 3 hours.

Thank you ☺️

Not sure if it’s normal or not to be honest. If they’re FF and struggling with wind, have you tried one of the comfort type formulas?

{mention:BunnyRuddington}thabjs@BunnyRuddingtonthabjs for reply. I've since found out it is normal(!) as their little bowels are still developing.
I had saw the comfort formula but wanted to give the infacol a good chance to work. I have the health visitor at the start of the week so will see what she says if she thinks it would be worth trying! although I think he's now a farty baby and not a burpy one!

Defo could be normal as still so young, but that much poo straight after each other is a little odd, especially if it’s always after a bottle? Could be CMPA, give it another week and i would see GP

Sounds normal to me, as you say their bowel is still developing, so they may figure out how to do a bit of poo and then use the wrong muscles and stop pooping, then relax and start again.

I had this with mine and did the leg exercises like the bicycle legs and some gentle tummy massage which helped move the wind through.
