My little boy, who's so far been reasonably happy to be petted, looked at, held by his grandparents and my friends, has just started screaming in horror at them. Not just if they hold him, but if they come close and talk to him as well. He's been fine with the grandparents before, but all of a sudden they're demons! (Although, just to confound us, he sometimes gurgles and laughs at them, but mostly it's the horrors.)

I think I've read about older babies becoming very clingy and afraid of strangers and not-parents for a while, but is this a phase that people are familiar with for this age? Apart from his grandparents being a bit taken aback, it doesn't bode well for eventual babysitting! He's otherwise a reasonably happy little person, I think.

EliieKat, my DD did exactly this but from 6 weeks of age and only with one set of grandparents and some friends. It was horrible and I too worried about all of the same things as you. The good news is that it all stopped all of a sudden when she was about 5 months. She's nearly 9 months now and I'm now waiting with trepidation for separation anxiety to kick in .

I think this is very usual-he will be fine again when he gets used to them.

this is quite normal, it's about that age their eyes start to focus better so they start to see clearer, facial features just take a bit of getting used to

You can pass a new baby round like a parcel, then they become aware that they are strangers and then the next stage is being able to differentiate between people and the grandparents will probably become favourite people.
