My little girl is nearly 1 and won’t point, clap or wave, I just wondered when everyone else’s baby did this? My son is autistic and I keep worrying she may be too here are a list of things she does/doesnt - (I’m just really getting into my own head so would really appreciate opinions front a fresh mind)

The answers to her name, somthing my son never did and still doesn’t

no pointing, waving, clapping

crawling, pulling herself up, cruising

very clingy with me, she cries if I give her to someone who isn’t my mum or husband! (Not sure if this is normal

she’s pretty fussy

she spins her feet in curls and hands

started babbling but doesn’t repeat anything I say

very nosey

thank you so much x

Hello @hol92have tou got the 12 month check booked in with your HV or had it already happened?

@BunnyRuddingtonshe had her 10 month review and she scored high on the form, I mentioned these things im worried about and she just said that they can be signs but if they grow out of them they are nothing to worry about, I guess because I had this with my little boy I feel like I’m just reliving it again, everyone said to me that he would start doing all of these things or grow out of some of the things and he never did x

For pointing, it's still early days. Some point before a year, for lots it seems to emerge at 12-15 months, and I think it's not 'late' until 18 months – which a huge amount of time in baby development. No waving and clapping at this point is a bit more unusual, but I think still in the typical range.

In terms of communication, something else you'd be looking for around this age are the first tiny bits of understanding. She recognises her name, so that's obviously good. Does she understand anything else – maybe to hide her face if you say 'where's DD?', or to stretch out her arms when you say 'how big is baby?' Or maybe 'stop' or 'give me that'? Or maybe if you say 'where's teddy?', she'll look towards it? Not all of these, just maybe a couple.

With the babbling, will she have 'a conversation', where you say something, then she babbles, then you say something, etc., or does babbling seem to be just for herself, not involving you at all (some babbling to herself would be expected, though, she's practicing)? Neither of mine were ever interested in the whole 'baby says ba-ba, you say ba-ba, baby repeats ba-ba' thing, and actually repeating words came after they could say quite a few words independently, but they would do back-and-forth babbling.

I think being clingy at this age is pretty common – certainly both of mine were!
