Anxious, Clumsy & sensitive to noise

Hi all, looking for some advice. My son is 4.5 years old. With us at home he is generally happy, healthy and very chatty. But increasingly as he has got older he has become extremely anxious going into daycare. He plays on his own mostly and is very quiet. He is also quite sensitive to loud or conflicting noises when we are out and can have quite severe “meltdowns”. His balance seems a little off and most concerning he has already had three accidents resulting in two small scars and a lost front tooth. He runs everywhere and often does little laps of the room in between other activities (eg of watching a screen). He also is very drooly especially when he is concentrating and is also a bit behind with things like holding a pencil/ colouring in the lines. Whilst these are all small things and he is mostly otherwise hitting milestones we a a bit worried some of them are becoming more exaggerated as he gets older and the accidents / resistance to go to daycare are becoming a concern. Any advice ?

I would consider looking into occupational therapy and then considering if they perhaps have dyspraxia/developmental coordination disorder.

Are you in the UK @Abz2? Just wondering as he’s in daycare at 4.5 Smile

I think that given that the little odd things are becoming more noticeable as he ages it is worth filling out both of these:

The 54 month Ages & Stages

and the 60 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages.

The first one is designed so that most DC will score in the white in the majority of cases and grey in one or two areas. If he’s scoring grey in more than two areas or black in any area then you’ll need to speak to your HV, GP or Paediatrician, depending on where you’re based.

On the Social & Emotional assessment the cut of point is 70 so if he’s scoring more than that, then you’ll need to seek advice as above.

If you do seek support i would show them both completed assessments as using both together can give them a better picture of what’s going on.

As the PP suggests, it’s worth reading up on Dyspraxia. I would also have his eyes tested if you can.
