Reducing screen time

I desperately need help! My nearly 3 year old is glued to the TV and I don’t know what to do and how to fix it. So, he used to watch it now and again throughout the day but when I got pregnant with my daughter (she is 10 weeks old) I had severe sickness up until I was 17 weeks pregnant so I really struggled to play with my son and keep him entertained so ended up putting the TV on for longer than normal. My partner started a new job so couldn’t take any time off to help and we literally have no one to help so I had no choose as I was so unwell. Now, he has it on all day. I take him upstairs to play with his toys while she naps but he gets bored so quickly even though he has so many. I take him in the garden, draw with him etc but he just can’t do it for to long and wants the TV. I feel like such an awful mum. He wakes up in the morning and goes straight to the TV remote and passes it to us. When he gets bored of what he is watching, he wants us to change it to something else and this is constant throughout the day. I take him out everyday but obviously I can’t take him out the whole day all the time. I just don’t know what to do anymore and I know it has really affected his development as his speech is so behind. The HV came round two days ago but she wasn’t very helpful about it so there is no point asking them what to do!

I had bad nausea with mine too and relied heavily on tv in 1st trimester.

Sounds simple, but just take it away and keep tv time to a predictable time in their routine e.g. 30 mins before dinner.

If you are consistent they will get used to it in a few days to a week. It will be a rough few days but maybe get out the house lots of something. Either way it will pay off.

Good luck
